4 Ways To Improve Your Home Security

Blog

Keeping your home safe and secure is likely your top priority, as it should be. Not only will you protect your home, probably one of your biggest investments, but you can help keep your family and pets safe as well. The following tips will provide guidance into protecting your home, improving your security, and keeping your family safe.

Get an Alarm System

Alarm systems have come a long way in recent years, with technology and surveillance equipment combining to make your home very secure. You can now get alarm systems with home surveillance that you are able to monitor on your own. You can download an app on your smartphone or tablet and actually see different areas of your home where the cameras have been installed. If you are going on vacation or will be working late, you can see what is going on in your home, and if there seems to be an emergency, you can call the police to investigate before anything bad happens.

Hide Your Key Properly

Avoid all the most common places to hide a spare key, including under a rock or turtle near the door, under your doormat, or in a magnetic box beneath your car. These are all places a burglar is going to check first since so many homeowners still use them. If you must hide a spare key outside your home, choose a spot as inconspicuous as possible. If you want it near your door, put it underneath a rock, but make sure that is not the only rock nearby! If you have rocks instead of grass in your front yard, hide the key in one of the rocks, making sure you know which one it is, but it would be impossible for anyone else to guess.

Have the Locks Changed

You should never move into a new home and keep the locks it came with. Even if you trust the people who lived there before and anyone else who had access to it, it is better to be safe than sorry. It is not difficult having the locks changed and it is well worth it. Also change the locks if you have lost your key (even if it has since been retrieved), or if you had a roommate that moved out. You never know who could have had access to the key and made copies.

Keep Your Home Well-Lit

The front and back of your house should always be well-lit, no matter what time of day or night it is, and whether or not you will be home. The front yard and entrance should have lights that turn on when someone is in the vicinity, as well as the backyard. This will deter a burglar who is trying to remain hidden and inconspicuous. In many cases, they will run off as soon as the light goes on, which helps keep your home and family protected.

Safety and security should always be your top priority. Don't take any chances and always double-check that all doors and windows are locked before going to sleep, and when you are leaving the house. Talk to experts like Maffey's Security Group for more information.

Carpet Cleaning Tips And Tricks

Hello, it's Trinity Wilson here and I love cleaning carpets. Having five children gave me a crash course on this fine art. While renting, it's important to keep the carpets free of stains despite the chaos that multiple children bring down after all. I learned how to lift liquids out of the carpet before they could set. I learned how to remove hidden stains well after the kids moved something over the top to cover their crime. I've even taught my kids how to clean stains out of their carpets using both natural and commercial products. I've decided to apply my skills to this website to teach my readers the best ways to approach carpet cleaning. I will share how to clean the carpet by hand, with a machine and even when to hire professionals to get the job done. Welcome to my site, please come by often!
